KRC would like to congratulate Andy Medcalf, KRC Senior Men Head Coach, on his recent appointment as senior coach with the Portuguese National Squad. Andy’s remit is to take the top guys in the Portuguese Squad to the next level and to qualify them for Tokyo 2020. Andy has an impressive CV having joined KRC after coaching at high level programmes, both at universities and clubs, in the UK and US. He has a wealth of experience in developing athletes to perform at higher levels. Whether at international standard or at club level as at KRC. Over the past 30 years or so athletes under his guidance have won medals at world championships and Olympic Games and also had success at major domestic events. This includes at Henley Royal Regatta and Women’s Henley. Andy will continue in his position as KRC Senior Men’s coach in addition to his new role. We believe this will be a mutually beneficial arrangement. At present the plan is for him to spend about one week per month in Portugal. He will continue to oversee all aspects of the KRC Senior Men including writing the training programme. Gary Lovejoy will run the squad in Andy’s absence on weekends with Danny O’Dowd helping as time allows. We wish Andy and the Portuguese National Squad the best of luck in qualifying for Tokyo!
