The Senior Men's Squad is a relatively young group of athletes who continue to build on results year on year. We pride ourselves on getting more speed out of rowers than others, through a well structured training programme and coaching efficient rowing technique. We are always looking for athletes who have big ambitions and the necessary commitment to help us achieve our goal of winning at Henley Royal Regatta.

Here is some inspiring news from the senior men. They are now in the final week of their current lockdown training block. Since mid March we have been building up to two 2K erg tests to correspond to the cancelled Met regatta at the end of May. We do not normally spend too much time erg testing during race season and this seemed like a perfect opportunity. No rowing or races to take up our valuable time. The first test was today. The results have been spectacular. Lots of PBs with some by nearly 10 seconds. All of this achieved whilst training in isolation. It has been very tough for everyone and I am incredibly proud of the whole squad and how they have taken on the challenge. I am very happy with the scores.

Gary Lovejoy

Assistant Coach

Andy Medcalf has been head coach of the senior men at Kingston RC since September 2013. In those 7+ years the squad has been transformed from what one squad member called “Henley fodder into contenders”. Each subsequent season has seen improvement in performances and we continue to push on. Our goal is to win at Henley Royal Regatta and then repeat within 2 years. The approach is based on teaching efficient technique maximising distance travelled per stroke especially on the recovery. The training program is unique for club rowing and structured on well established scientific principles. Gary Lovejoy has been an invaluable part of the coaching team since 2017.
